12 JULY 2019 we HONORED and gave RECOGNITION to 65th INFANTRY REGIMENT “BORINQUENEER” living Veteran MAJ JOHN L. BOHANNON from Orange Beach, Alabama
He was attached to the 65th Infantry Regiment and assigned to Company “C” 10th Engineer Combat Battalion (65th Regiment Combat Team)DURING THE CCF SPRING OFFENSIVE ON JUNE 4, 1951 IS WHERE SQUAD LEADER SGT BOHANNON MADE A DIFFERENCE IN THE WAR.
HE WAS ORDERED TO TAKE HIS SQUAD TO BUILD A ROPE BRIDGE ACROSS THE HANTAN RIVER.
THERE IS WHERE THIS HERO MADE HIS MARK…
AFTER RECEIVING HIS ORDER BY THE OFFICER IN CHARGE AND FINDING OUT THAT SEVERAL UNSUCCESSFUL ATTEMPTS HAD BEEN MADE TO ROPE A BRIDGE.
BORINQUENEER BOHANNON TOOK IT UPON HIMSELF AS THE BEST QUALIFIED SWIMMER TO CROSS THE HANTAN RIVER UNDER HEAVY RESISTANCE FIRE!! HE MADE IT ACROSS THE RIVER AND WAS ABLE TO FASTENED THE LINES TO BOTH TREE LINES AND SOLDIERS WERE ABLE TO CROSS THE RIVER DURING NIGHT COVER..
BORINQUENEER BOHANNON COMPLETED HIS MISSION AND WAS AWARDED WITH THE SILVER STAR FOR HIS HEROICS.. BY SECURING THAT LINE HE SAVED HUNDREDS OF LIVES
