Borinqueneer Congressional Gold Medal Presentation PFC Jorge Berrios-Santiago

Today January 24, 2021 Our organization the 65th Infantry Regiment MA continues to Honor and give Recognition to Korean War veteran MIA Borinqueneer PFC Jorge Berrios-Santiago of Villalba, P.R. PFC Berrios served with the 65th Infantry Regiment 3rd Battalion and was in Company L, during the Korean War.

Here we presented his sister Maria Zayas of Sunrise, FL with the Borinqueneers Congressional Gold Medal Posthumously by Virtual Presentation.

PFC Jorge Berrios-Santiago was Inducted into the U.S. Army in 1951, He was processed at Ft. Buchanan and had his basic training at Camp Santiago, Salinas PR . He served with 3rd Battalion 65th Infantry Regiment Company L and participated in 2 battle campaigns in Korea;

Second Korean Winter 28 November 1951-30 April 1952

Korea Summer Fall 1 May-30 November 1952

As the Battle for Kelly Hill "Out Post Kelly" had began on Sept 18, 1952, and the 65th losing it's ground o the Post, Company K & L were task to retake the Post. It was during this attempt to re-take Kelly Hill is when the cintinous barrage of mortar fire and heavy chinese artillery caused major losses and among those losses, PFC Jorge Berrios-Santiago were among those that were Missing in Action. After December 31, 1953 was declared dead.

His name is inscribed in the Memorial of the Walls of Rememberance in Honolulu, Hawai and at the National Korean War Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Where his name is among other american soldiers in the Garden who gave their lives in the service of their country and wherethe earthly resting place is only known by God. But his memory will be carried on for generations to come.
